Dr. Faieta is a dedicated caregiver, clinician and scientist with expertise in developing and evaluating non-pharmacological and technology-based interventions for dementia and dementia caregiver populations. Her research is driven by her family’s personal journey which began in high school when her maternal grandmother first exhibited symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. This experience fueled her passion for supporting dementia caregivers and their care recipients and exploring solutions to enhance the well-being of both.
Julie earned her PhD in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, with a minor in neuroscience, and further honed her expertise through a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at Université Laval and the Cirris Research Center, Quebec. During this time, she was honored with the Mitacs Accélération Fellowship Award and the AGE-WELL Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Award in Technology and Aging.
Julie has made significant scholarly contributions, with nearly 100 peer-reviewed publications and international or national presentations. She is the recipient of the RESNA Emerging Leader Award in 2021 and the ACRM Women in Neurodegenerative Disease Rehabilitation Science Award in 2023.
Her pivotal project, the Health App Review Tool (HART), aims to support dementia caregivers by evaluating health apps tailored to individual needs. Julie is actively involved in various service and leadership roles, including chairing the ACRM Neurodegenerative Diseases Networking Group Alzheimer’s Disease Task Force and serving on the Board of Directors for the Rehabilitation Engineering Society of North America.
