Located in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood, VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System’s University Drive campus brings together comprehensive clinical care, medical research, and education to serve Veterans. The medical center provides emergency, primary, and specialty care, including medical and surgical services, critical care, mental health care, cardiac surgery, and cancer care.

Research is an integral part of this mission. The campus houses a dedicated Research Office Building with laboratory facilities, an investigational drug service, and a Clinical Trials Center. These resources support scientists and clinical teams studying disease and evaluating potential treatments, with the goal of improving Veterans’ health and the care they receive. The Clinical Trials Center supports studies of medications and medical devices across multiple areas of medicine.

Across VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, the research program included 352 active projects and 229 investigators in fiscal year 2025, reflecting a substantial commitment to advancing care through scientific discovery.

The University Drive campus also houses the Pittsburgh Fisher House, providing a welcoming home away from home for families while their loved ones receive care. Together, these clinical, research, and family support resources advance a shared mission: improving the health and well-being of Veterans.

Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center combines comprehensive clinical services, health professions education, and research activities to support Veterans’ health and well-being. Its healthcare system serves Veterans across northeastern Pennsylvania and neighboring New York communities, connecting hospital-based care with community outpatient services and telehealth.

The medical center offers primary care and a broad range of specialties, including cardiology, oncology, neurology, surgery, and mental health care. Rehabilitation and extended care services support Veterans with changing needs, including those requiring dementia care, hospice, transitional care, and support at home.

As a teaching hospital, Wilkes-Barre VA helps prepare future physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals through academic partnerships and supervised clinical training. Research and quality improvement are also part of its educational work, including pharmacy residency projects that examine clinical practice and opportunities to improve care.

In 2024, the Wilkes-Barre VA Healthcare System served nearly 40,000 Veterans and recorded more than 433,000 outpatient visits across its 19-county service area. Its combination of clinical services, education, and community access supports care for Veterans throughout the region.

Wilmington VA Medical Center brings together comprehensive clinical care, medical education, and research to serve Veterans in Delaware and southern New Jersey. Its healthcare system includes the main medical center, five outpatient clinics, and a Community Living Center, with telehealth services expanding access to care.

Clinical services include primary care, cancer care, surgery, mental health treatment, substance use care, and women’s health services. Rehabilitation, home-based primary care, hospice, and palliative care support Veterans with complex and changing needs, helping them maintain independence and quality of life.

Research at Wilmington VA emphasizes collaboration and the application of scientific findings to Veterans’ care. Academic partners include the University of Delaware, Delaware State University, Rowan University, and Thomas Jefferson University. Wilmington also participates in Delaware research networks that support biomedical investigation and the translation of research into clinical practice.

Through its partnership with Veterans Health Foundation, Wilmington VA expands access to research and education funding from non-VA federal agencies and private sources. VHF provides administration of these funds, supporting opportunities for VA investigators and their academic collaborators.

Education is another central part of Wilmington’s mission. More than 200 medical residents receive part of their training at the medical center each year, alongside training opportunities across nursing, pharmacy, social work, and other health professions. Together, these clinical, research, and educational activities support better care for Veterans today and prepare the professionals who will care for them tomorrow.

Butler VA Health Care System has served Veterans since 1947, providing comprehensive care to communities throughout western Pennsylvania and parts of Ohio. Its services combine primary, specialty, and mental health care with chronic disease management and social support, helping Veterans address both their medical needs and the everyday challenges that affect their health.

Care is available through its main campus on North Duffy Road, facilities on New Castle Road, and five community outpatient clinics serving Armstrong, southern Butler, Clarion, Lawrence, and Mercer counties. Telehealth and other Connected Care services help Veterans stay connected with their healthcare teams beyond traditional office visits.

Butler VA’s Whole Health approach places each Veteran’s personal goals, priorities, and well-being at the center of care. Services also include a Medical Foster Home program, offering eligible Veterans long-term support in a home setting, and care coordination for Veterans who are traveling or relocating.

Education supports Butler VA’s commitment to clinical excellence. Its chiropractic residency combines supervised clinical training, collaboration across healthcare professions, and scholarly activities to prepare clinicians for practice in integrated medical settings.

In 2025, Butler VA served more than 27,000 Veterans. Through its network of facilities and personalized approach to care, the system supports Veterans in managing their health, maintaining independence, and pursuing what matters most to them.
