Pittsburgh, PA — Veterans Health Foundation (VHF) announces new Board Director
Veterans Health Foundation (VHF) announced today that its Board of Directors elected Marc Geraci, MD, as a non-statutory Director of the organization, effective immediately.
Dr. Geraci is Vice Chancellor for research, health sciences, and Vice Dean for medical research and professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh’s top-ranked School of Medicine.
Funded by the National Institutes of Health for over 20 years, Dr. Geraci’s research has focused on the biology of lung cancer and pulmonary vascular disease and has conducted promising tests in humans of compounds to prevent the development of lung cancer in current and former smokers.
Prior to joining the University of Pittsburgh in 2020, Dr. Geraci was on faculty at Indiana University, where he was the John B. Hickman Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine. There, he expanded the department’s research portfolio, clinical growth, and financial position while broadening faculty development and advancement. He also held leadership roles with the Precision Health Initiative program and the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute.
He is widely recognized for his commitment to teaching and mentoring, the development of physician-scientists and for his leadership of a broad range of initiatives including genomics and translational medicine
Dr. Geraci earned his BA at the University of Colorado studying molecular, cellular, and developmental biology and psychology. He received his MD from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and trained in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School before completing a pulmonary sciences and critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
During his time at the University of Colorado, Dr. Geraci held a dual appointment at the VA Medical Center in Denver, Colorado where he conducted research and received training under a VA clinician.
