Trained as an experimental social psychologist, Dr. Hausmann has devoted her career to improving the health and healthcare of historically marginalized (e.g., women and men, racial and ethnic minority groups, and rural populations) Veteran populations through rigorous research and quality improvement. Dr. Hausmann’s research examines how social drivers of health vary across subpopulations and works to develop tailored interventions to improve their negative health effects. Her contributions to the field have been recognized through multiple awards, such as the Gold Excellence in Government Award for Outstanding Contribution to Medical Science and the prestigious Veterans Affairs (VA) Health System Impact Award, a national Health Systems Research award given to researchers whose work has had an exceptional impact on VA health care.

With over 130 peer reviewed publications, Dr. Hausmann was named a Fellow of the Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM) in 2023 and fosters relationships between SBM and external organizations to advance the field of behavioral medicine as Chair of SBM’s Organizational Partnerships Committee. She also serves as a member of the editorial board of Health Services Research and is a member of PAServes Service Navigation Advisory Committee for the Veterans Leadership Program in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
